Blog: P2P

File sharing has always been a topic of controversy because of the ability to pirate many digital products. These products can range from songs to movies to games. What it is exactly is the sharing of digital files from one computer to another or many over a network with the use of the internet.

One of the many reasons it is a debate amongst the worlds because of the massive losses that are being experience by many industries especially since most are either mostly or fully online. As said in the article, “Should Online Scofflaws Be Denied Web Access?” American entertainment business has losses that amount to $20 billion dollars in only 1 year of sales due to piracy.

A branch of file sharing is known as P2P. This is known as peer-to-peer file sharing and it is the sharing of a digital file that can be small or extremely large from a computer that already contains the information you need to pirate or atleast obtain the information.

Sites like BitTorrent and RapidShare are examples of these sits. BitTorrent is very common and helps the users computer transfer files into downloadable information.

But RapidShare has the ability to upload files and share content that is even to big to email. This makes the only limit the pirates have is the strength of their computer.
