BLOG: Blog v Wiki

The uses of blogs and wikis are vast. They are similar in nature as in, both are used as outlets of information that are accessible by everyone. Wikis in comparison to blogs are more communal. They are not linear and can be edited, corrected, and added to by many. It is collective idea sharing that can be created by many. Links to different pages and times can be added. Blogs on the other hand are written by one or few people and are usually not edited after being posted. Blog posts also do have a line form with the newest post being showed first.

We are in a collaborative world. All our own knowledge and everyone else's knowledge can be shared from the tips of our fingers. As said in the article, "What Motivates WIKIPEDIANS?", there are more than 1.9 million articles created on the site. Giving people the chance to spread and share ideas in a collaborative space. The outlet is growing on par with the likes of Youtube and Facebook. Even though the form of content is different it is still social and effective.

I believe wikis have a lot of potential due to its ability to be constantly updated. I think the outlet can be used for more crime and criminal awareness in neighborhoods. The people constantly updating to keep the place safe. Like a district, town, or state's own neighborhood watch.

On the other hand blogs are definitely less collaborative, but definitely have the potential to be. A perfect example is in the article, "Brooklyn Blog Helps Lead to Drug Raid", where if you can guess, a blog and comments helped police to clean up the streets in Brooklyn. The information o the blogs caused the civilians to take action by reporting events, and their effort lead to the arrests of criminals.
